Puppies—why do we love them? Is it simply because we find them cute? Or is it a bond much deeper than that? They have personalities, from shy and withdrawn to in your face and eating everything in their paths. They can remind us of ourselves, each equipped with their quirks and personality. On a deeper level, one could even say that they remind us of the honest, good nature that resides within us.
Puppies are remarkable, and they deserve to be born and raised in healthy and safe environments. That is why we partner with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) through our #DoorToChange program. HSUS helps rescue and provide care for animals, including puppies, who are in desperate need.
For National Puppy Day, we’re excited to share more about the heart behind the HSUS and how you can help make a difference! Who knows—you may even want to consider adopting a furry friend to welcome into your home!

About the Humane Society of the United States
The HSUS is the nation’s most effective animal protection organization. Since 1954, it has been committed to ending suffering for all animals and rescuing them from abuse and neglect throughout the United States. The impact of the HSUS has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands in its care. In 2020 alone, more than 100,000 animals were directly cared for as a result of the efforts of the HSUS — no small feat!

Celebrating National Puppy Day and the HSUS
Since 2006, March 23rd has been marked as a special day to celebrate the joy that puppies bring! From their little, wagging tails to their sweet puppy-dog eyes, it’s no surprise that puppies can have a unique place in the hearts of their owners. And that bond continues to grow as puppies mature into loyal companions.
While National Puppy Day is an exciting day for dog-lovers and pups, it’s also a day to bring awareness to a serious issue — mistreatment of dogs at puppy mills. According to the HSUS, more than 2.6 million puppies are sold from these facilities.
Fighting Puppy Mills
In pursuit of their mission to create a more humane society, the HSUS is fighting to stop puppy mills. A puppy mill is a commercial dog breeding facility focused on quick breeding to churn out puppies for profit. Dogs from puppy mills are often sick and unsocialized, living in cramped cages with little to no attention. And when the mother and father dogs can no longer breed, they are abandoned or killed. Despite these poor living conditions, most pets purchased online and from pet stores come from these inhumane facilities.
The good news is that HSUS is fighting back! And more good news — you can help! By donating to the HSUS, you can play a crucial role in supporting this organization’s mission to shut down the inhumane practices of puppy mills.
